Like RPSC, UPSC also has chairman post vacant

Just like Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC), Union Public Service Commission (), the country's premier body that recruits officers for All India services and Central Civil Services by holding various examinations and interviews, is also functioning without a proper chairperson.

UPSC chairperson, Preeti Sudan, retired from her post this past April 29. However, the is yet to appoint her successor.

UPSC chairperson is appointed by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the concerned minister, is its minister of state.

Though UPSC appointed union sports secretary Sujata Chaturvedi as a member the day Sudan had retired. Chaturvedi, an IAS officer  of 1989 batch, was two months short of retirement.

UPSC members usually serve a tenure of six years or till the age of 65 whichever is earlier. Currently, there are six members in the Commission. UPSC can have a maximum of ten members besides the chairperson.

RPSC has been functioning without a full time chairman since August 1, 2024 when IPS Sanjay Shrotriya retired. Kailash Chand Meena, a retired IAS, who was appointed as member in October 2023 by outgoing Gehlot government, has been officiating as chairman since then.

The BJP government is yet to appoint any member or chairman of RPSC, which is facing trust deficit amid allegations of paper leak.

RPSC in full strength can have seven members and a chairman. Currently, there are five members – Kailash Chand Meena, , Manju Sharma, Lt. Col. Kesari Singh Rathore and Prof Ayub Khan. One post is vacant while a member Babu Lal Katara has been suspended after getting arrested in paper leak.
