Sri Ganganagar collector Dr Manju, SP Gaurav Yadav launch short film to create awareness about drug menace 

District collector of Sri Ganganagar Dr Manju and Superintendent of in the rank of DIG Gaurav Yadav have found an innovative way to spread awareness about the drug menace, which is fast engulfing the district.

Dr Manju and Gaurav Yadav joined hands to produce a short film based on the drug menace – Safed Saya. The film depicts how the drug addiction destroys lives of people. The film will be shown in every school of the district on the ‘No Bag Day', July 5, 2025. 

The film has strong message and is centred around two neighbouring families of different backgrounds. Here a third generation hardworking fell prey to drug. His neighbour a college going lovable young boy too becomes victim of this menace.  A college girl is also shown as a victim of circumstances. She first got addicted to drug's and then just to ensure regular supply of drug's, she became handler bringing other youths of college into the drug net.

The film is a novel medium to communicate with people specially with school and college going youths. The film is available on YouTube and other social media platforms of district administration.

Why Sri Ganganagar is hotbed of drugs? 

Sri Ganganagar, being a district of Punjab and Pakistan is a soft target for drug pedlars and smuggling. The administration is fighting a battle to curb this social vice and help youth from keeping away from drugs.

The district administration is running a campaign – Drugs free Sri Ganganagar and Operation Seema Sankalp to free Sri Ganganagar from the vice of drugs and curb smuggling.

Under this campaign, around 1000 FIRS have been lodged against drug smugglers and the police have arrested more than 1,000 people since last September. The police have also hauled illegal drugs worth Rs 500 crore during this period. 

According to district admisnitartion, the campaign focuses on protecting youth aged 15 to 25 from the growing influence of drugs. It blends strict law enforcement with rehabilitation and public engagement. Around 2,000 individuals received treatment at 10 de-addiction centres operating across the district.

A WhatsApp helpline has been launched to allow anonymous reporting of drug-related incidents. Complaints are integrated with the Rajasthan Sampark Portal (181) for confidential tracking and response. Additionally, a new 25-bed govt-funded de-addiction centre has opened in Sadulshahar as part of the 2024–25 budget.
