Rajasthan government has turned down proposal of Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) of moving Supreme Court against High Court's decision of quashing bribery charges against IAS Nannu Mal Pahadiya.
The ACB had sought to file Special Leave Petition (SLP) before Supreme Court citing enough proof against Nannu Pal Pahadiya. But the law department decided against it proposing – “No Appeal”.
Pahadiya, a 2006 batch IAS officer, promoted from state administrative service, was caught by Anti Corruption Bureau allegedly accepting bribe of Rs 5 lakh in April 2022 and was suspended three months ahead of his retirement. He spent few months in jail before coming out on bail. He was under suspension and was not given retirement benefits.
Later, in March this year single bench of Justice Ganesh Ram Meena quashed the FIR and directed to annul the trial proceedings being undertaken at local ACB court.
Pahadiya had joined BJP during his suspension
Nannu Mal Pahadiya had joined BJP in July 2023 during his suspension. He wanted to contest from Weir assembly seat of Bharatpur district – the home district of chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma. BJP, however, had denied ticket to Pahadiya and contested Bahadur Singh Koli, who won the election.
When denied ticket, Pahadiya had announced to contest as independent candidate. But withdrew in favour of BJP.
What is the case?
According to ACB sources, Nannu Mal Pahadiya, during his stint as collector Alwar, allegedly demanded Rs 16 lakh as bribe to facilitate construction work on Delhi-Mumbai Expressway which was then under construction and was passing through Alwar.
The contractors approached ACB and complained about Nannu Mal Pahadiya, an RAS officer Ashok Sankhla and a middleman Nitin Sharma.
ACB, after receiving the complaint, set up a trap in which Nannu Mal Pahadiya and his accomplices were caught accepting bribe of Rs 5 lakh.
Pahadiya was accepting bribe even after being transferred from the post of Alwar collector. He was to join as commissioner departmental enquiry. But during the transition period, he was arrested taking bribe from collector's bungalow which he was occupying even after coupe of days of his transfer.
