Wives rival husbands’ tickets, one stands against, other sulks

It's becoming common at least in politics. Spouses stand against each other. They vote different parties and they air different views.
In Rajasthan this time, wives of two candidates have shown dissent against party and their respective husbands.

Dr Rita Singh, wife of sitting Virendra Singh of Danta Ramgarh has decided to contest election against him on the ticket of Chautala's JJP. Virendra Singh is set to get ticket from Congress.

Similarly, on Ramgarh (Alwar) seat, sitting MLA Shafia Zuber Khan has voiced dissent after Congress gave ticket to her husband Zuber Khan. In last elections, the party had preferred fresh face Safia over Zuber, who is a three time MLA. Now when party has returned to its old choice, Shafia is said to be sulking. She said that even though her husband got the ticket, her supporters are not happy.

“I should have got the ticket. But I can't as ticket is with my family only. Our society is male dominated. Women are not accepted 100%,” she said.

On the other hand, on Danta Ramgarh seat, wife Rita Singh is up in arms against husband Virendra Singh, who is son of Jat stalwart Narain Singh – seven time MLA from Dantan Ramgarh and former state .

Narain Singh had lost three elections only and once to Ajay Chautala – the founder of JJP, which has given ticket to her daughter in law Rita Singh.

Narain Singh introduced Rita Singh in politics. But now he says that she will not be able to save her deposit even on the elections.
“Everyone is free to contest. I am not angry at her. But she will not be able to save her deposit even. She should not have contested,” Narain Singh told The BuckStopper over phone.

Rita Singh, who lives separately from her husband Virendra Singh said that she should have got the ticket on last election.

“I have been active in my area and I should have been considered in last elections. But I kept quite as ticket went to my husband. But this time, I can't wait for long. I will contest the election on JJP and win,” said Rita Singh.

Former district president of Sikar, Rita Singh had contested panchayat election in which she won but she had lost election of pradhan.

“I am committed to serve people of my constituency. It's been more than 30 years that I have been politically active. Now I want to expand my role,” she said.
