No single use plastic
A day after taking over the charge, Rukmani Riar reviewed the cleanliness of the city. She surveyed many areas and instructed showed her annoyance towards slackness in garbage collection. She instructed cleaning staff to wear reflector jackets while on work.
Rukmani Riar also instructed officials to implement company's ban on single use plastic.
The central government had banned the single use plastic as it is hazardous to environment and health.
However, the plastic is still in use causing environmental and health hazards.
Officials in the municipality have been instructed to monitor and comprehend use of such plastic.
Who is Rukmani Riar?

Rukmani Riar is a 2012 batch IAS officer. She has done MA in Social Work from the prestigious Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) before joining the civil services. Her husband Sidharth Sihag is also an IAS officer, currently posted in chief minister office as joint secretary.
A native of Hoshiarpur, Riar had been district collector of three districts including Hanumangarh, Sri Ganganagar and Bundi.
An upright officer, she is a strict disciplinarian and act with compassion with people.
