It seems casteism has gone deep in Madhya Pradesh bureaucracy. After IAS officer Santosh Verma, whose statement against Brahmin's daughter, created uproar, another IAS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre Meenakshi Singh has come up with casteist statement a function organised by the Anusuchit Jati Jannati Karmachari Sangh (AJJAKS).
Singh, who is serving as secretary tribal cell in Raj Bhawan, said that IAS officers belonging to reserved category should reach out to people of their caste. Meenakshi Singh is a 2013 batch IAS officer promoted from state administrative services.
“Having a caste identity and caste-based sentiments is the need of the hour. When people belonging to the upper caste favour people on the basis of their surnames, we should also reach out to our people on ground,” she said.
Singh, who had earlier served as commissioner SC welfare department, said that whenever she had been posted in districts, the people belonging to the SC/ST category avoided meeting her, thinking that she was an officer.
“But we have to tell our people that we belong to the SC/ST category. We should search for our people and help them,'' Singh said in the video clipping.
What Verma had said
Verma, a 2012 batch IAS officer, also promoted from state services, had said that the reservation should continue until he gets a Brahmin girl for his son for marriage.
The statement created storm and amid heavy agitation, the state government put Verma on APO. He was serving as deputy secretary in agriculture ministry. The state government has sent a proposal for his removal from service to the central government, which is yet to decide on his fate.
