Former IAS Manjeet Singh appointed as Special Observer in Assam

Manjeet Singh, former IAS officer of 1988 batch, Rajasthan cadre has been appointed as the special observer for poll-bound with a mandate to update the poll panel on election preparedness in the northeastern state.

Assam goes for poll on April 9, and the votes will be counted on May 4.

Gyanesh Kumar, who is also from 1988 batch Kerala cadre, assured that in all states, including Assam, would be held peacefully.

As part of the mandate by the election commission, Manjeet Singh will visit Assam regularly to observe the election preparedness, conduct of the elections, and give inputs to the poll body wherever necessary.

“As the eyes and ears of the Commission, the special observer will further bolster the conduct of elections in a free, peaceful, impartial and transparent manner in Assam,” the Election Commission said.

Manjeet Singh, who joined IAS late, retired in 2018 after serving for 30 years. His last posting was as Additional Secretary Local Self Governance in Rajasthan government, where he had uninterrupted 4-year run.
