In a major setback for IPS officer Vishal Gunni, the Andhra Pradesh High Court has stayed an earlier order of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) that had revoked his suspension.
The Andhra Pradesh government had suspended Gunni over allegations of abuse of power, including the controversial arrest of actress Kadambari Jethwani.
Challenging the move, he approached CAT, which on August 28 last year set aside the suspension and directed the government to assign him a new posting.
However, the state government moved High a court against the CAT order.
Advocate General Dammalapati Srinivas contended that CAT intervened prematurely, before the prescribed suspension period ended, potentially disrupting the ongoing inquiry.
On the other hand, senior Advocate Avinash Desai appeared for Gunni, backing the tribunal's order to reinstate him.
After hearing both sides, the High Court noted that the matter requires detailed examination and issued a stay on the CAT order. This means Gunni's suspension will continue for now.
The case has been adjourned, with the next hearing scheduled for August 29.
