Rajasthan government is expanding super speciality medical services and equipping Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS) with all the modern medical facility to transform it as state of the art Rajasthan Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS)- a dream initiative of Bhajan Lal government to develop RUHS on the lines of AIIMS, New Delhi.
Principal Secretary Health and Medical Education Gayatri Rathore reviewed facilities and medical services available at RUHS and directed officials to plug holes for ensuring world class medical facilities at the hospital.
She instructed officials to expand super speciality services and address shortage of doctors. She appreciated increase in footfalls in OPD, IPD and maternity services and told hospital management to upgrade medical facilities in a time bound manner.
“There is substantial potential for further expansion of medical services and all departments should make concerted efforts to sustain and advance this positive progress in the coming months,” she said.
RUHS, recently in a short span of time has progressed well in providing quality health services. It has substantially reduced burden from the state's largest hospital – SMS Hospital.
What is RIMS?
The Rajasthan Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Jaipur, is a premier medical institute and super-specialty quaternary-level hospital being developed by the Rajasthan government. It is being established on the lines of AIIMS, New Delhi, by upgrading the existing Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS).
The government has appointed Dr Mohnish Grover as the Principal and Controller of RUHS Medical College. Grover is an alumnus of AIIMS, New Delhi and had also been a faculty there before joining SMS Hospital. He was Senior Professor in ENT department of SMS before being transferred to RUHS .
