IAS Vivek Aggarwal elected Vice President of FATF, a first for India 

Vivek Aggarwal, a 1994 batch IAS officer has been elected as the of Financial Action Task Force (FATF). This is for the first time India has been accorded  vice presidency of this global organisation since its joining in 2010. 

This marks India's growing importance and role in global efforts to combat and terrorist financing.

Vivek Aggarwal, an IAS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre, is currently serving as Culture at centre, 

The vice president is chosen by the FATF Plenary from among its members and supports the president in guiding and overseeing the organisation's work.

Aggarwal has previously headed India's delegation to the FATF and served as Director of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU). He was also part of the team involved in India's most recent FATF evaluation process.

“The appointment is a clear indication of India's growing स्टेचर at global platforms. I am deeply honoured to serve, and look forward to working with the FATF Global Network to keep the international financial system safe, inclusive and resilient,” Aggarwal said. 

Meanwhile, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson termed Aggarwal's a “major win” for India, stating that the appointment highlights the country's strong commitment to tackling terrorist financing worldwide.

“As India continues to champion a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism, this leadership role reinforces our relentless focus on combating global terrorist financing networks and dismantling illicit financial systems,” he mentioned.
