In a major crackdown, Rajasthan government has seized illegal liquor worth Rs 6.63 crore in the first quarter of the financial year – 3.5 times more than Rs 1.8 crore illegal liquor seized last year during the corresponding time.
The excise department has strengthen its informer network extensively to prevent bootlegging and sale of illegal liquor across the state.
“We have approved Rs 18 lakh while disposing 30 cases pending for many years in a short period under the informant incentive scheme of the state government. This will activate informers and motivate them to help us in preventing the sale of illegal liquor,” said Namit Mehta, Excise Commissioner.
These 30 cases were pending for many years in districts including SriGanganagar, Alwar, Dungarpur, Udaipur, Sikar, Ajmer, Rajsamand, Churu, Bikaner and Jhunjhunnu, where bootlegging, selling and manufacturing of illegal liquor is rampant.
Incentives for Informers
Rajasthan government has a provision to give a reward up to 4% of the amount to informers if the information is helpful in preventing the unquestionable estimated revenue loss of Rs 10 lakhs or more.
Mehta has also enforced officials to recover the recoveries worth are 2,250 crore. The focus of excise department is on enhancing revenue as it comprises 12% of the total revenue receipt of the state.
“Last year we have achieved over Rs 20,000 crore. There has been steady rise in excise revenue over previous years and except slight dip in revenue in 2024-25,” said a senior excise department officer.
