Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar, a 2016 batch IAS of Karnataka, who is in jail in connection with the alleged recruitment scam for veterinary officers conducted by the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC), reported to have gifted Gold Jewellery to his girlfriend and a villa to his brother.
The CID, which is probing the case, said that Gangwar used money from corruption to buy gold jewellery and villa. According to sources, Gangwar raised crores of rupees as bribes from candidates and used a portion of the funds to purchase gold jewelry worth Rs 26 lakh for his girlfriend. Gangwar belongs to Bareilly while his girlfriend is a native of Ayodhya.
Gangwar had brought his girlfriend to Bengaluru and taken her to a prestigious jewellery store on Dickenson Road, where he purchased the gold jewelry and gifted it to her.
Gangwar buys Rs 26 lakh Jewellery for Girlfriend
The bill for the jewellery purchase was settled by transferring Rs 26 lakh from the bank account of ‘Om Sri Lakshmi Souharda Society'—linked to Basavaraju—providing strong evidence that the jewellery was bought using illicit funds.
Additionally, investigators have obtained a photograph of Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar and his female friend at the jewellery store and have seized the purchase bill.
The jewellery purchased with illicit funds must be legally seized. Consequently, sources state that Gyanendra Kumar's female friend has been summoned to appear for questioning at the CID office.
Gangwar served as the Controller of Examinations for the KPSC from February 2024 to March 2026.
During this period, he purchased a luxury villa near Kempegowda International Airport. The villa is registered in the name of his elder brother, Kamlapati. Authorities suspect that illicit funds were used for this purchase and are conducting further investigations.
