Abhay Kumar, a 1992 batch IAS officer of Rajasthan cadre has been appointed as the state coordinator for the month long campaign – Viksit Bharat – Jan Seva Abhiyan being held between September 17 to October 17.
This campaign aims at strengthening the spirit of public service, social concern and good governance in the state. It will also disseminate information about various public welfare activities at large scale and ensure high level public participation including farmers, women and youth in achieving the goal of developed Rajasthan.
Who is IAS Abhay Kumar?
Abhay Kumar is currently serving as Additional Chief Secretary, Water Resources Department. His little more than two and a half years of tenure has been quite eventful. So much so that, people in the department has started calling him ‘Waterman'.
Considered as an efficient officer, he has been instrumental in unlocking two major inter state water sharing agreements recently. These include Rs 35,000 crore long delayed Yamuna Water Agreement and the modified PKC-ERCP Link Project.
While Yamuna Water Agreement Will Paul be way for uninterrupted supply of drinking and irrigation water for the parched lands of Shekhawati region, the PKC-ERCP link project benefiting 13 districts of the state.
“Through these joint framework, Abhay Kumar has been instrumental in transitioning Rajasthan toward a long-term water-secure state. We can safely call him Waterman of Rajasthan,” said a senior IAS who has supervised Kumar during his early days.
What is the role of Abhay Kumar in Jan Seva Abhiyan?
Abhay Kumar, the senior most IAS officer after Chief Secretary V Srinivas, will have a key role in the effective implementation, time-bound operation, monitoring and coordination of the project being carried out in the field. He will also have to provide guidance to various departments and districts for seamless coordination.
Timing crucial
The timing of this campaign is crucial keeping in mind the upcoming panchayat elections in the state. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has entrusted Kumar with the responsibility to spread good work of government to public. The success of this campaign will have great impact intern functioning of the state government, which is completing three years of rule in December.
