A couple of days after foreign secretary Vikram Misri trolled and his family abused over announcement of ceasefire, spokesperson of Indian Army and face of Operation Sindoor Col Sofia Qureshi was inflicted with outrageous remarks by Madhya Pradesh's tribal welfare minister Vijay Shah.
The BJP leader while giving speech referred the decorated officer as the “sister of terrorists”.
“Unhone (aatankwadiyon) humari behan-betiyon ke sindoor ujaade the, wahi kate-pite logon ko, humne unhi ki behan bhejkar unki aisi ki taisi karwai.” (They [terrorists] had disrespected our sisters and daughters by wiping off their sindoor. We sent their own sister to give them a befitting reply.”)
Sharing the video, the Congress party wrote,”‘Colonel Sofiya Qureshi is the sister of terrorists'—this disgraceful statement was made by Vijay Shah, a minister in the BJP government of Madhya Pradesh. Every Indian takes pride in Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, a daughter of India, yet such a shameful remark has been made about her. She has been labelled the sister of terrorists. This is an insult to our valiant armed forces.”
Col. Qureshi, who has a distinguished record in the Indian Army and belongs to a family with a military background, was not part of India's military offensive against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir under Operation Sindoor. She and Wing Commander Singh had done the media briefings in New Delhi along with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.
On the backfoot, Shah claimed his remarks had been misconstrued. “Some people are taking my statement in a different context. I did not mean it that way. She (Col. Qureshi) is my sister and she has avenged the acts of the terrorists,” he said.
