With assembly elections barely 5 months away, BJP has reinforced its trust in the organisational capability of senior leader Om Mathur by appointing him the election incharge of Chhatisgarh. Mathur has already been working as incharge for last 10 months. This dual charge will rule out any division of power ahead of assembly polls, which are crucial for the party aiming a comeback. Union minister and close aide of Prime Minister Mansukh Mandavia has been appointed as co incharge of election committee in the state.

“It's a rare occasion that state incharge is given the of election incharge also. This shows the supreme trust of party in Mathur, who has worked really hard in last 10 months to strengthen party at grassroots level. Among all three , Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh – going for polls together, Chhatisgarh is toughest for BJP. So it has fielded its strongest organisational man,” said a senior BJP leader.

The power of one

Within hours after the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Raipur, Mathur has been made the election in charge also.

Mathur, who is also the member of party's central election committee, will have a free hand in distribution of ticket and designing poll campaigns. In past also, Mathur has proved his mettle in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and elections where the party had registered unprecedented victories under his leadership. Now with both the critical command in one hand, Mathur is likely to crack a winning formula for BJP, which is looking to uproot Baghel government.

Challenges ahead

The party has reposed complete trust in Om Mathur, who has been touring the entire state for last 10 months to understand the political equation. The central leadership is convinced about his organisational capabilities. He is known for taking tough decisions and winning elections for the party.
“I don't consider Chhatisgarh as a challenge for me. Power comes by and go. But this time BJP will come. To power on permanent basis. We never take any election lightly whether it's small or big,” Mathur had said on his first visit to Raipur after he was made state incharge 10 months back.
