Rajesh Kumar Meena, a 1988 batch IAS officer has been appointed as the new chief secretary of Maharashtra, two months ahead of his retirement.
Meena is scheduled to retire in August this year. He is likely to get extension. Meena is son-in-law of Jas Kaur Meena, former BJP minister of state in Vajpayee government.
A native of Sawai Madhopur district of Rajasthan, Rajesh Kumar Meena is considered a senior and skilful administrator of the Maharashtra cadre. The officer, who has held several important administrative positions, has now been entrusted with the highest post of the Maharashtra bureaucracy.

Meena joins the list of chief secretaries from Rajasthan origin
With Meena becoming the chief secretary, officers of Rajasthan origin, have a major role to play at top level.
Apart from Rajesh Meena, two more officers of Rajasthan origin – Amrit Lal Meena and Khilli Ram Meena – are holding the top post of Bihar and Mizoram respectively.
Rajesh Kumar Meena has extensive experience of working. He is currently serving as the Additional Chief Secretary of the Revenue Department. So far, he has held many important positions in various departments.
Earlier, Sujata Saunik, who was the CS of Maharashtra, is retiring today (June 30). She was also the state's first woman chief secretary.
