Haryana government may have to relax service rules if the state decides to give job on compassionate ground to daughter of former IPS Y Puran Kumar, who shot himself to death in October last year.
According to Haryana Service Rules 2016, for an ex-gratia compassionate appointment, the deceased or missing government employee must not have attained the age of 52 years.
Puran Kumar, born on May 19, 1973 had crossed the age of 52 when he died on October 7, 2025.
Kumar's wife and senior IAS Amneet P Kumar has sought compassionate appointment for her elder daughter in state administrative service.
“Two reports have been submitted to the government in this regard. The first report was submitted shortly after the IG's death while the second report was submitted in the month of April,” an official said.
The Home Department has prepared the file and sent it to the Human Resource Department through the CMO. The file has reached the Chief Secretary's office. The Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi said that the matter is under consideration.
Widow of ASI sandeep Lather given job
A week after the suicide of Y Puran Kumar, ASI Sandeep Lather had also committed suicide by shooting himself with a revolver in Rohtak. He had accused Y Puran Kumar, wife Amneet Kaur and brother-in-law Amit Rattan, who is MLA in Punjab from Bhatinda rural seat, of corruption and putting undue pressure on him.
At the time of death, Lather was 41. The cabinet has approved the appointment of his wife Santosh Kumari to the post of PGT Mathematics (Group-B) in the campus school of Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak and issued the appointment letter in January. The decision was taken only as a relief in exceptional circumstances.
