Umesh Chander Dutta, a 2000 batch IPS officer of Rajasthan cadre has been awarded with President's Medal for his distinguished service.
Dutta is currently on central deputation serving as Inspector General of Police in Special Protection Group (SPG) at Cabinet Secretariat.
A decorated officer, Dutta belongs to belongs to Chandigarh. He is also a recipient of Best Officer Trainee during outdoor training at LBSAA Mussoorie.
He had also served as DIG Border Security Force and SP in Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), where had handled many sensitive cases. During his stint in CBI, he was honoured with the Police Medal for Meritorious Service on Republic Day 2016 and while serving with BSF, Dutta received the BSF Director General's Disc five times there.
During his tenure in home cadre, Dutta has served as Superintendent of Police for more than a decade in Barmer, Nagaur, Sriganganagar, Bhilwara and Alwar in Rajasthan. He has also served as Inspector General in Jaipur Range, RAC and Intelligence before going on central deputation.
