ISA to deploy digital twin technology in Rajasthan energy utilities

The leading global intergovernmental organisation – International Alliance – has identified Rajasthan as the priority state for implementing digital twin technology in power distribution network.

The AI enabled twin technology aims to integrate renewable energy and improve grid reliability.

The digital twins enable real-time monitoring, predictive fault detection and smarter grid restoration, which are crucial for managing the variable nature of solar and other distributed renewable energy (DRE) sources.

“It is a step forward to realise the vision of India Energy Stack in the state,” said a senior official.

ISA has already operationalised a multi donor trust fund (MDTF) managed by Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), which is working with Discom for creating digital twins of the distribution network, load flow studies, and analysis and deploying an AI based management.

What is the project?

This initiative aligns closely with Ministry of Power's vision for the India energy stack – a digital public infrastructure designed to provide secure and interoperable platforms across the electricity value chain.

The project would enable the utilities with an AI-powered GIS-based Asset Management, Network Analysis, Roaster Management and Load forecast for DER Integration into the grid.

Who are the key officials?

For the success of this project, contribution of key officials including Rajasthan Chief Secretary V Srinivas, Principal Secretary Energy , RREC Rohit Gupta, ISA Director General Ashish Khanna, Director General, ISA and GEAPP Saurabh Kumar, is needed.
