When V Srinivas was appointed as Chief Secretary six months back, detractors said that how an officer, who had served almost half of his career at centre, can deliver at a time when the seasoned bureaucrat Sudhansh Pant opted for a re-deputation to centre.
Now after six months, those detractors have turned into praisers. Srinivas' past tenures at centre are coming handy for ensuring good governance at state. There has never been such a smooth coordination between centre and state. Srinivas uses his personal relation with secretaries at centre for facilitating schemes and programmes of central government in state.
The way it is double engine sarkar for BJP in Rajasthan, the state bureaucracy is also reaping benefits of Srinivas' relationship at centre.
During his tenure as Chief Secretary, Srinivas has visited New Delhi on several occasions and interacted with Secretaries of various ministries to push pending cases of Rajasthan.
Personal Relations stitch Centre-State coordination
“Srinivas is considered a ‘Thorough Gentleman' in bureaucratic circle. He is undisputed and enjoys good relations with almost all. Besides he, from 1989 batch, is among the senior-most IAS officer in the country. Officers respect him and clears his proposals,” said a senior IAS officer, who is on central deputation from Odisha cadre.
Before coming to home cadre to annexe the top chair, Srinivas had spent considerable time in department of administrative reforms, public grievances and pensioners welfare. He also held department of personnel as additional charge on couple of occasions.
“He enjoys personal rapport with almost all secretaries. So when he pushes agenda of Rajasthan, the state gets benefitted,” said a senior IAS officer of Rajasthan cadre.
Srinivas had also served as private secretary to former BJP stalwart Jaswant Singh, who had been minister of external affairs and finance in Vajpayee government. He had also held international assignment in International Monetary Fund (IMF).
