When sun was firing on all cylinders raising the day's temperature beyond 47 degrees, Barmer Collector Chinmayee Gopal came out from the comfort of her air conditioned cosy office and hit the street to feel the heat.
The Collector took stock of cleanliness on major roads and colonies and visited Mahaveer Park to understand the pain of morning walkers, children and fitness enthusiasts of the city. She summoned all the concerned officers including ADM, SDM and officers of municipality to have the reality check.
Chinmayee Gopal instructed officers to ensure cleanliness in the street and renovate the Mahaveer Garden which is one of the most visited parks of Barmer. She told officials to restart Toy Train, which would chug in the past for amusement of children. Gopal also instructed to repair the fitness equipment of park's open gym and restart the fountain, which could bit of cool down the people feeling the heat of rising mercury.

Gopal had launched free coaching to girls in Jhunjhunu
An alumnus of the prestigious Lady Sriram College and Delhi School of Economics, Chinmayee Gopal had contributed majorly in girl education. When she was Jhunjhunu Collector, Gopal launched free coaching for girls preparing for competitive examinations at their doorstep. She called upon influential people from society and encouraged them to fund free coaching for girls. The first such village was Sonasar where girls were provided with books, periodicals, computers, Internet and all facilities needed to crack the competitive examinations.
“We are expecting such steps in Barmer also where the level of literacy and higher education among girls is very low. Collector Madam will certainly launch such programmes in the district,” said ManjuRam Chaudhary, a father of three daughters.
