Bonda Mani, popular Tamil comedy actor, dead

After a prolonged ailment, popular comedian Bonda Mani died in Chennai on Saturday. According to doctors, the probable cause of his was a kidney ailment. He was 60 years old.

According to media reports, Mani fainted at his residence in Chennai's Pozhichalur and was rushed to the government in Chrompet; after examination, the doctors declared him dead.

Trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai tweeted, “Tamil cinema's popular comedian Bonda Mani (60) passed away due to ill health.” He is survived by his wife Malathi, a son, and a daughter.

Bonda Mani acted in 270 films for almost three decades taking up several comical roles. He had been a regular in comedy tracks. He was introduced in Bhagyaraj's Pavunnu Pavunudhaan, he went on to act in several films such as Ponvilangu, Pongalo Pongal, Sundara Travels, Marudamalai, Winner, Velayudham.

He was well known for his performances in Winner (2003), Englishkaran (2005), Aaru (2005), Marudhamalai (2007) and Kannum Kannun (2008).

He was known for his one-line dialogues in films he acted. He came to Tamil Nadu from Sri Lanka as a refugee.

He also had an unsuccessful stint in politics. In June 2016, Bonda Mani joined the All Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam political party along with a few Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party workers. Bonda Mani personally met then- to join the party officially.
