Rajasthan continues to top the table in the flagship PM Suryaghar Free Electricity Scheme. In the month of May, Rajasthan achieved a record installation of 26,632 roof top solar set up ever since the scheme started in February 2024.
So far 2.17 lakh roof top solar installations with a capacity of 830 MW have been put up in the state with a central subsidy of Rs. 1,460 crore reaching the bank accounts of beneficiaries.
Under the scheme, Jodhpur Discom with 9,316 consumers led the tally while Jaipur with a slightly lesser number at 9,204 and Ajmer with 8,112 followed suit.
As far as district wise connections are concerned, Jaipur topped the tally with 5,484 roof top installations followed by SriGanganagar (3,264), Hanumangarh (2,084), Sikar (1,606) and Jhunjhunu (1,534).
Why the number went up?
The number of connections went up last month as Discoms Chairperson Arti Dogra directed officials to speed up the inspection process by reviewing the applications at faster speed.
As a result Discom officials swung into action and carried out physical verification of roof top solar applications of more than 27,700 consumers – the highest in any month.
“Engineers completed the maximum number of inspection procedures, resulting into addition of 177 new vendors in the scheme. Also, 177 new vendors were added to the scheme,” said a senior official.

It is a government scheme that aims to provide free electricity to households in India. The scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 15, 2024. Under the scheme, households are provided with a subsidy to install solar panels on their roofs. The subsidy covers up to 40% of the cost of the solar panels. The scheme is expected to benefit 1 crore households across India. It is estimated that the scheme will save the government Rs. 75,000 crore per year in electricity costs.
