Rajasthan has created a record of sorts in the field of green energy by creating 1,000 MW rooftop solar installed capacity.
Under the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme, the state has installed rooftop solar installations at more than 2,65,000 households in the state so far. This has taken the total installed rooftop solar capacity to 1001.57 MW.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said that a large number of people are benefitting from the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme.
“This scheme is promoting clean and green energy in the state,” he said.
What is PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme?
This is a government scheme that aims to provide free electricity to households in India. The scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 15, 2024. Under the scheme, households will be provided with a subsidy to install solar panels on their roofs. The subsidy will cover up to 40% of the cost of the solar panels. The scheme is expected to benefit 1 crore households across India. It is estimated that the scheme will save the government Rs. 75,000 crore per year in electricity costs.
What incentive does Rajasthan government give?
The Rajasthan government enhances the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana by providing an additional ₹17,000 state subsidy for eligible households. By combining this with the central subsidy, households can install a 1.1 kW rooftop solar system completely free of cost, enabling them to receive up to 150 units of free electricity per month.
