Rajeev Sharma to be appointed as Rajasthan DGP, no formal announcement made

Putting end to speculations, Rajeev Sharma has been named as the new Director General of (DGP) of Rajasthan. 

Ravi Prakash Meharda, who was officiating as DGP retired from the service today. Though no formal announcement has been made and it is said that the state government has requested the central government for his repatriation so that he can resume his services with state government. Sanjay Agarwal, another contender for this post has been given additional charge of DGP till further orders. He is currently serving as DG Intelligence.

Sharma is currently on central depiction serving  as Director General, Bureau of Police Research and Development. 

A 1990 batch officer, Rajeev Sharma was the top contender for the post. Other two contenders were Sanjay Agarwal and Rajesh Nirwan (both from 1992 batch). 

Who is Rajeev Sharma? 

Rajeev Sharma is originally from Uttar Pradesh. He has been on central deputation for a long time. He holds an MA and thereafter an MPhil degree. His home district is Mathura

Earlier, he was IG in Bharatpur and Bikaner. Rajeev Sharma has held important positions like DG ACB, DG Law and Order and RPA Director. He has held various responsibilities, including the post of Joint Director in the CBI. He is considered expert in   control along with policing.

He has served as Superintendent of Police in Rajasthan mainly in Jhalawar, Dausa, , Traffic, Bharatpur, Jaipur. Not only this, Bharatpur and Bikaner have also held the post of IG. He has also served as the DG of ACB.
