Senior IAS officer Alok, who was serving as additional chief secretary energy before going on a medical leave, has passed away. He was fighting with cancer. The entire bureaucracy and political fraternity is shocked with his untimely death. He was due to retire in November 2026.
According to family members, his cremation will be held in New Delhi at Lodhi Road crematorium.
A 1993 batch IAS officer, Alok was considered an efficient and upright officer with his own views. He had a knack of detailing and was never afraid of experimenting. Those who know Alok will vouch that he never compromised on his views and was candid in putting across his opinion before seniors also.
A native of Bihar, Alok never used his surname – a sign of him being propagator of anti casteism. His hold on power sector was visible in his action as ACS energy. He was to trying to being new practices to reform the energy department, which is running in huge losses.
Considered as a hard task master, Alok is known for fast implementation and tight monitoring.
On central deputation, he worked as member (administration) in National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) before becoming additional secretary in NDMA.
He had been on deputation to centre on two occasions. And in both the occasions Congress was ruling the state. His first tenure in centre was from April 2010 to January 2014 when he was director in union power ministry followed by director general (technical) in bureau of efficiency.
A graduate in mechanical engineering form IIT, Alok had been collector of five districts including Kota, Sawai Madhopur, Udaipur, Bikaner and Bundi. He has also held important positions in BJP government in state including principal secretary revenue, pwd, msme, secretary energy and managing director RIICO.
