Alok, a 1993 batch IAS officer of Rajasthan cadre, is likely to join his home cadre on January 22, 2024 – the auspicious day of Ram Temple consecration ceremony.
Alok, who was serving as additional secretary in National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) under ministry of home affairs, was repatriated on January 8, 2024 after completing stint of almost four years.
On central deputation, he worked as member (administration) in National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) before becoming additional secretary in NDMA last year in January.
Slated for important portfolio
Alok is a seasoned bureaucrat with good track record. If he has been sent back to Rajasthan by the central government, he is due to get a plum posting. Sources in the bureaucracy say that in current scenario he is perfect fit for role in chief minister office. He has an extensive experience in road infrastructure, power sector, revenue matters and industries.
He has been sent to help Bhajan Lal Sharma government implement ModiKiGuarantee in a swift manner. He will act as a connector between double engines, centre and state,” said an IAS senior to Alok in the system.
Other than that, Alok may well be given other important portfolios which are being handled as an additional charge like medical education; rural development, panchayatiraj. The least chance is that Alok may get finance.
“This is unlikely as no government would like to touch finance with budget round the corner. Also senior IAS of additional chief secretary rank Akhil Arora is handling the department. No one can doubt his competence,” said an IAS officer, who has worked with Arora.
Alok is a hard task master
A native of Bihar, Alok is known for fast implementation and tight monitoring. He had been on deputation to centre on two occasions. And in both the occasions Congress was ruling the state.
His first tenure in centre was from April 2010 to January 2014 when he was director in union power ministry followed by director general (technical) in bureau of efficiency.
A graduate in mechanical engineering, Alok had been collector of five districts including Kota, Sawai Madhopur, Udaipur, Bikaner and Bundi. He has also held important positions in BJP government in state including principal secretary revenue, pwd, msme, secretary energy and managing director RIICO.
