Diya Kumari, member of erstwhile royal family of Jaipur is the only one so far to have become minister. Though her grand mother Gayatri Devi had been member of parliament from Jaipur consecutively for three times -1962, 1967 and 1971 – on ticket of Swatantra Party. But she never became minister. Her father Brigadier Bhawani Singh has also unsuccessfully contested election from Jaipur seat on Congress ticket.
Before getting elected from Vidyadhar Nagar assembly segment in this election, Diya Kumari was member of parliament from Rajsamad. She had also been MLA from SawaiMadhopur in 2013-2018.
Divya Kumari, was among the favourites to become the chief minister of Rajasthan. People were expecting her to replace Vasundhara Raje, who also belongs to erstwhile royal families of Gwalior and Dholpur. However, her name as the deputy chief minister has not come as a surprise.
In the election campaign also, she was given proper mileage during Prime Minister's rallies and it was believed that she will be given important portfolio.
True to people's belief, she had been given the responsibility of deputy chief minister. BJP eyes at Rajput votes as she represents Rajput community and has sway over all communities.
