Former CRPF, ITBP chief Anish Dayal appointed as deputy national security adviser

Former IPS officer has been appointed as the Deputy , an appointment that will leverage Singh's extensive experience in security and intelligence, gained over a career spanning more than three decades.

Singh has previously served as the Director General of both the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Indo-Tibetan Police (ITBP). A 1988-batch IPS officer from the Manipur cadre, he had retired from service in December 2024.

In his new role, Singh will closely with the National Security , Ajit Doval, offering strategic counsel on national security matters. He will be in charge of the internal affairs of the country, including Jammu and Kashmir, and Naxal and Northeastern insurgency.

Singh's specialised knowledge of counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism is expected to be a key asset in the formulation of India's security policies.

The appointment comes as India confronts a range of security challenges, including terrorism, insurgency, and cyber threats. Singh is anticipated to play a crucial part in tackling these issues and fortifying the nation's security framework.
