Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma has been appointed as the acting Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court. President Draupadi Murmu on Friday issued an order which will come into effect from September 27.
Chief Justice Kalpathi Rajendran Shriram is scheduled to retire on September 27. The Justice Department of the Union Ministry of Law and Justice on Friday issued a notification regarding the appointment of Justice Sharma. The appointment will be published in the Gazette of India.
Justice Kalpathi Rajendran Shriram was sworn in as the 43rd Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court on 21 July 2025. His tenure lasted only 69 days, as September 27, 2025 is his retirement date.
Who is Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma?
Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma was born on 27 September 1964 in Jaipur. Interestingly, he will take over as the acting Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court on his 61st birthday. He did B.Sc. and then completed LL.B. On 30 May 1987, he started practising law in the Rajasthan High Court and did practice in many fields including constitutional, service, commercial, labour, criminal and arbitration.
On November 16, 2016, Justice Sharma was appointed as a judge of the Rajasthan High Court from the lawyer quota. On January 1, 2022, he was transferred to the Patna High Court. He was sent to the Punjab-Haryana High Court in 2023 due to health reasons, as better medical facilities were available in Chandigarh. On 14 July 2025, he was again transferred to High Court Rajasthan.

Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma is also the working as the chairman of the Rajasthan State Legal Services Authority. His bench is hearing the SI recruitment case in Rajasthan.
