IAS Sanjeev Khiwar appointed as MCD commissioner

Sanjeev Khirwar has been appointed Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (). The notification regarding his appointment was issued on Wednesday (January 21).

Sanjeev Khirwar is a senior IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre (1994 batch). He has returned recently to Delhi in January 2026 after being transferred in 2022 due to a controversy over walking his dog at the Tyagaraj Stadium. He was then was posted in Ladakh.

Khirwar, a 1994 batch IAS officer, was appointed as the divisional commissioner of Delhi during the corona pandemic. Prior to this, he has served in Delhi and Chandigarh, Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

He has worked in positions such as Goa Excise and Finance Commissioner, of West Delhi, in Arunachal Pradesh and Secretary in Andaman and Nicobar. From October 2009 to August 2014, he worked as Private Secretary to the Union Minister for Women and Child Development. In Delhi, he has worked in important positions such as the Department of and Family Welfare, Revenue, Finance and General Administration. 

Sanjeev Khirwar holds a BTech in Computer Science and a Master's degree in Economics.
