IPS Jyeshtha Maitrei, who is serving as Superintendent of Police in Sawai Madhopur district, has taken a novel initiative to create “Akshay Fund” to help families in the event of the death of cops.
The fund is created by voluntary contribution of police personnel serving in Sawai Madhopur district.
“Currently, there are around 1400 police personnel working in the district. We can collect around ₹16 lakh on the voluntary contribution of one day salary,” said Maitrei.
She said that if any cop passes away, his family will be offered ₹3 lakh as financial assistance immediately. This support will provide initial financial relief to the grieving family during difficult times.
“Once the fund is formed, no further deductions will be made from any personnel's salary until the entire amount is utilised. Voluntary contribution of one day's salary will be taken again only when needed. This way, the scheme will continue indefinitely without placing any additional financial burden on the employees,” she said.
What led to the launch of this fund?
Maitrei said that she was moved by the sudden death of a Constable Kunjilal, who was posted at Sawai Madhopur Police Lines.
“That incident shook me and left the entire police family emotional and zapped. We then realised the need for an immediate financial assistance to bereaved family. Then the thought of Akshay Fund came in mind,” she said.
