Rajasthan clocked an annual growth of 44% in installed renewable capacity to cross 50 GW milestone. The total installed capacity in the state now stands at 50.33 GW with solar contributing 44.13 GW.
Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation (RREC) Chairman and Managing Director Dr. Rohit Gupta, who joined RREC in June 2025, said that the achievement is the result of sustained policy support, strong institutional partnerships and growing investor confidence.
“The journey ahead is getting even more exciting as we continue to scale renewables, storage and grid upgradation solutions for a cleaner and resilient energy future,” he shared on LinkedIn.
Where was Rajasthan a year back?
Rajasthan has always been a leader in renewable energy sector. Be it solar or wind. However in last few years, the contribution of wind energy is stagnant in capacity building while solar is growing at meteoric pace.
As per the data available, the total renewable energy installed capacity in Rajasthan was 34.7 GW by July 2025. The capacity of wind stood at 5.2 GW while the solar capacity was 29.5 GW.
“In a year's time, the installed capacity of solar went up by 50% from 29.5 GW to 44.13 GW. The contribution of wind energy showed minuscule rise from 5.20 GW to 5.54 GW. There has been remarkable work done in the solar energy sector,” said a senior official.
What is the target?
Rajasthan aims to reach 125 GW of total renewable energy capacity by the financial year 2029–30. This is in line with India's national target of 500 GW non-fossil capacity by 2030.
“We are expecting solar energy to contribute 90 GW, wind and hybrid energy to share 25 GW while 10 GW is likely to come from Pumped Storage, Hydro and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS),” the official said.
Where does Rajasthan stand?
Currently, Rajasthan stands at second spot after Gujarat, which is slightly ahead with total installed capacity of 52.61 GW.
Rajasthan has a see-saw battle with Gujarat. Sometimes Gujarat inches ahead and sometimes Rajasthan leads the table. Rajasthan is followed by Maharashtra (33.19 GW), Tamil Nadu (29.80 GW) and Karnataka (27.44 GW).
“In next two years, there is likely to be an extraordinary increment in solar capacity. In Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit, the solar energy sector has attracted investment of Rs 27 lakh crore out of the total Rs 35 lakh crore investment pledged in the summit by leading solar energy companies,” said a senior official.
