Dr D Sajith Babu, a 2012 batch IAS officer has been appointed as Kerala's new Chief Electoral Officer (CEO). Prior to that, he was serving as Special Secretary in the Education Department.
He has replaced Dr Rathan Kelkar who has been appointed as the Chief Minister's Secretary following the formation of new government.
For the past two months,the post of Chief Electoral Officer was vacant. The appointment of Babu was executed after the approval of The Election Commission of India following the recommendation from the state government.
A doctorate in agriculture science, Dr Babu has served in several key positions, including Kasaragod District Collector and State Mission Director of the National AYUSH Mission. He had sone some remarkable work during Covid-19 pandemic and was shortlisted for the Prime Minister's Award for Excellence in Public Administration.
He has also served as Supplyco Commissioner, Special Secretary in the Animal Husbandry Department and Registrar of Cooperative Societies.
