CBI claims IAS Ram Kumar Singh deleted chats with mastermind in bank fraud case

Former Municipal Corporation Commissioner and officer Ram Kumar Singh, along with former and Panchayat Department Superintendent Prince Sharma, have been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody in connection with an alleged bank fraud case. The Central Bureau of Investigation () presented both the accused before a Panchkula court.

The CBI informed the court that IAS officer Ram Kumar Singh had deleted his chats with the alleged mastermind of the bank fraud before his arrest. The agency stated that the investigation has reached a crucial stage and several important aspects of the case are still under examination.

The fraud at MC Panchkula involved misappropriation of approximately Rs 79.46 crore. This was part of a larger at the Sector 32 IDFC First Bank branch, where funds totalling Rs 504 crores from eight Haryana Government departments were siphoned off.

Having obtained the necessary approvals from the Haryana and Central Governments, the CBI took over the case from the Panchkula Anti- Bureau. The agency has registered the case under various provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The CBI informed the court that a final report against 13 accused persons was filed on 21 May 2026. A supplementary report filed on 12 June named Vikram Wadhwa and Rajan Singh as additional accused. However, the probe remains open regarding the role of other departments and several suspected individuals.

The CBI claims that Ram Kumar Singh's alleged involvement surfaced during its investigation into his tenure as Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation Panchkula and Municipal Council Kalka.
