Clouds are dry. No drop falling from sky. But at Rajasthan's largest veterinary hospital – Government Veterinary Polyclinic at Jaipur's heart, MI Road – there is a stream flowing in the premises – full of stench and sewer water.
The flooding stream sourced from damaged sewer line is creating an impregnable boundary between Hospital and rest of city preventing animal owners from seeking treatment from their pets.
For last five days, the Polyclinic has become hell. Stench around and the fear of infection is spreading in the neighbourhood. With Nagar Nigam Commissioner sitting 7 kms away, Jaipur Collector sitting 5 kms away, Chief Secretary sitting 5 kms away from the Polyclinic, the hospital is still waiting for treatment.
“It's been five days that the premises is filled with unbearable stench and sewer water rising upto two feet. Animal owners are running helter skelter for treatment of their pets. But due to flooded premises they are not able to come to the hospital,” said Dr Rajoriya, Deputy Director and Incharge of Polyclinic.
He said that as against daily visits of 300 animal-patients, we are treating less than 100 animals. That too near the building in the parking lot where they have made makeshift clinic.
“We are forced to treat animals in the parking lot. However, we also have to conduct operation of seriously ill animals in the operation theatre which is in the building,” he said.
He said that due to sever water flowing and garbage around, there is every risk that animals coming for treatment go back with some other infection.
“We are living in this fear. Jaipur Nagar Nigam is assuring that the sewer line will take another two-three days for repair,” he said.
Dr Suresh Chand Meena, Director Animal Husbandry has also written to Jaipur Collector and Nagar Nigam Commissoner about the appalling situation in hospital premises. But to no avail.
