In a bizarre incident, granddaughter of Rajasthan's law minister Jogaram Patel was caught cheating in the environmental engineering paper during the semester examinations at MBM University, Jodhpur.
Rajasthan's law minister Jogaram Patel also heads the cabinet sub committee which is looking into the paper leak case in the SI Recruitment test.
Interestingly, girl's father Dharmendra Patel is working as a visiting faculty in the chemical engineering department of the university.
The university's flying team caught the student red-handed. The team, who found pencil written notes on the cover of the calculator, has registered a a case of cheating against the girl.
When the centre superintendent and officials came to know about the girl's antecedents, they tried to hush up the matter. But students protested and demanded strict action against the minister's grand daughter.
The centre superintendent Dr Shravan Ram came out in defence of the student and said that there is no case of cheating.
“In my opinion, the case is not of cheating. It happens some times that something is written inadvertently without any motive. This is one such case,” he said.
Vice-Chancellor of the university Prof. Ajay Sharma said that in such cases, the vice-chancellor is not directly involved and the decision is taken by the Controller of Examinations and the Unfair Means Committee.
“The committee collectively hears all matters after the examination is over and takes a final decision,” he said.

Jogaram had run into controversy earlier also
This is not the first time controversy has struck Jogaram Patel. The law minister hit the headlines when his son Manish was appointed as Additional Advocate General (AAG) soon after he was given the law portfolio.
Later Manish had to resign under pressure from opposition and public. However, Manish has been inducted in the panel of Staff Selection Board, a government body which recruits non gazetted staff for Rajasthan government.
