Rajasthan: ACS Rajesh Yadav reviews status of schools, directs speedy completion of pending works

At a time when Rajasthan is grappling with the issue of dilapidated structure of school buildings, Additional School Education Rajesh Yadav directed officials to address pending issues regarding land, electricity, water, and under-construction buildings on priority. 

In a review meeting, he directed officials to speed up and ensure the timely completion of tasks related to teacher and student attendance, academic quality, student enrollment, human resources, infrastructure facilities, and construction work.

Yadav directed officials to fill up the vacancies in 's model schools and ensure that quality education for students.

“Teachers must ensure optimal use of available resources. There has to be a subject-wise analysis and necessary academic activities should be in place to further improve the examination of the model schools,” he said. 

He emphasised that, alongside building construction, the availability of essential basic amenities must be ensured to provide a better academic environment for students.

Focus on hostels and residential schools

Yadav also reviewed the progress of hostels—both operational and under construction—under the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Residential Schools, Swami Vivekananda Model School hostels, PM-JANMAN, and DAJGUA schemes. 

Against a total of 51,950 students in KGBVs, 46,668 girls are currently enrolled. The enrollment status in Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Residential Schools and other residential institutions was also reviewed. He instructed officials to make extensive efforts at the local level to ensure 100% enrollment.

The meeting also included a discussion on the progress of residential schools and hostels sanctioned under the 2026-27 action plan. Work has been sanctioned for new residential schools and hostels; in some cases, the admission process has already begun, and students have started residing there. Additionally, the provision of facilities such as washing machines and automatic roti-making machines in hostels, as well as work related to three-phase electricity connections in KGBVs, was reviewed. 

Modern Facilities in Schools

Model schools are being equipped with various facilities, including smart and virtual classrooms, computer labs with 20 computers, CCTV cameras, sanitary napkins for female students, dispensaries, and incinerators. Additionally, activities such as check-ups, monthly parent-teacher meetings, Scout and Guide programs, arts and crafts, science fairs, mathematics and yoga Olympiads, school bands, and other co-curricular activities are being conducted.

Status of Model Schools

There are 134 Swami Vivekananda Government Model Schools operating across 134 blocks in 27 educationally backward districts of the state. A total of 57,565 students are enrolled in these schools, comprising 28,957 boys and 28,608 girls. 

In these schools, 55% seats are reserved for girls while 45% boys study in these schools. 

Under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, a total of 514 hostel and residential units have been sanctioned; of these, 422 are operational, while 92 are either under construction or pending. 

Out of 389 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs), 377 are operational, while work is in progress on 12. Regarding the hostels for Swami Vivekananda Model Schools, 22 out of 25 are operational, and three are under construction.
