Tanmay Kumar, a 1993 batch IAS officer of Rajasthan cadre, who was serving as Secretary Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change retired after 33 years of service. He has been replaced by Narendra Bhooshan(IAS: 1992: UP cadre) who was serving as Secretary, Department of Land Resources, Ministry of Rural Development.
Dilip Kumar (IAS: 1995: Punjab), Director General (Training), Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, has been appointed as Secretary, Department of Land Resources, Ministry of Rural Development after Bhooshan was appointment as Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
Who is Tanmay Kumar?
Tanmay Kumar is a celebrated IAS officer of Rajasthan. He had been secretary to CM during the first tenure of former CM Vasundhara Raje and later on he was Principal Secretary to Vasundhara Raje during her second stint.
“During the first stint of Vasundhara Raje, Lalit Modi called the shots in the state government. But in the second tenure, it was single handedly Tanmay Kumar who ruled the state. Everything was managed by him,” said a senior IAS officer.
What happened when Ashok Gehlot took over?
Tanmay Kumar had grown to such a stature that he refused to take words from former Chief Minsiter Ashok Gehlot. Even ministers of Vasundhara cabinet hesitated to put in words to him. So when Gehlot returned to power for the third time in 2018, he issued transfer orders for Tanmay Kumar, which was incidentally the first order in his rule. He transferred him to Bikaner as Commissioner Command Area Development, which is considered as the severe punishment posting. Later in just two months, Tanmay Kumar requested Vasundhara Raje to get him a central deputation. Gehlot initially refused to relive him but Raje persuaded him to relieve Kumar, who went to centre as Joint Secretary in Power Ministry. Later on he joined Environment Ministry as Joint Secretary and superannuated as Secretary of the ministry.
